Rome Marathon 28th edition on Sunday 19 March 2023, Italy’s most popular running event
Still a few months to be prepared for the Run Rome The Marathon 28th edition, the international level road race on 19 March 2023. Thousands of runners from over 100 countries have already signed up. Yet with registration open until 10 March, dizzying numbers are expected.
This is Italy’s number one running race in terms of participation (up to almost 15,000 finishers) and relevance (with the highest best time statistics of elite athletes and the IAAF Gold Label award in 2011). Since 1995 it has been surprising with its extraordinary and unparalleled route.
The event is co-organised by Infront Italy, Corriere dello Sport-Stadio and Italia Marathon Club, with Acea as title sponsor. An event promoting both sports and solidarity values, encouraging a green lifestyle and environmental sustainability: ISO 20121 certification by RINA was awarded in 2022.
Inclusion and equality are encouraged by a 42.195 km route, starting and finishing in Via dei Fori Imperiali. As usual, the route includes some of Rome’s most evocative and fascinating sites: Piazza Venezia, Campidoglio staircase, Teatro Marcello, Bocca della Verità, Circus Maximus, Porta San Paolo, Piramide Cestia, Basilica di San Paolo. Then Castel Sant’Angelo, St. Peter’s, Foro Italico, Piazza Augusto Imperatore, Via dell’Ara Pacis, Piazza Navona, Piazza del Popolo, Via del Corso and Spanish steps.
In addition to the Rome Marathon, you can also take part in side events, such as the Run4Rome solidarity relay (4-person teams will divide the entire route by running 10 km each) and the 5-km Stracittadina Fun Race (starting from the Fori Imperiali and finishing at the Circus Maximus) which has become the most popular non-competitive race in Italy, counting up to 80,000 participants.
Anyone can choose to support an Onlus affiliated with the Charity Program by registering to Run4Rome with a donation. Each member of this ethical and concrete project will receive a bib number, technical jersey and gadgets immediately after registration.
It is expected to be an amazing Sunday for people of all ages, including children. Everyone will be able to run through Rome’s eternal streets at their own speed, even if only by walking (no medical certificate is required for both initiatives): just have fun, doing good for yourself and others!
The Run Rome The Marathon will start at 08:30 in all weather conditions. 6-hour time limit. In 2022, Ethiopian Fikre Bekele Tefera set a new best time, finishing the competition in 2h 06’ 48’’. Can’t wait to find out who will be next to win the €12,000 first prize and especially whether the record will be break!

Run Rome The Marathon 28th edition will take place on Sunday 19 March 2023: 42km of energy, joy and solidarity await you in Rome!
The starting point is from Via dei Fori Imperiali, about 5km from AdaHome – Luxury Guest House Rome. It can be easily reached by car/taxi (in about 20 minutes) or by the following public transport (in just over 30 minutes):
• Bus 53 – Direction Mancini, from Liegi/Bellini stop to Tritone/Barberini stop, then Bus 85 – Direction Arco di Travertino to Fori Imperiali stop.
• Bus 3 – Direction Staz.ne Trastevere (FS), from Liegi/Bellini stop to V.Le Regina Margherita/Morgagni stop, then Metro B – Direction Laurentina, from Policlinico stop to Colosseo stop, then walk for 500 m (about 6 minutes).
